Kevin Tonkin joined the Adams Law Firm legal team in the summer of 2012. His practice focuses on business and transactional law, estate planning, property law, conflict resolution, and criminal defense.Kevin was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee and graduated from Bearden High School in 2001. He then earned his B.A. in History from Elon University in North Carolina in 2005. While there, he served as president of his fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi, donated numerous hours of his time to helping people with disabilities, studied abroad in Ireland, and attended dozens of Elon Phoenix athletics events (but only when the Vols weren’t on TV).
Following college graduation, Kevin worked for several years in higher education and in the corporate sphere. He then returned to school and earned his J.D. from Elon University School of Law in Greensboro, North Carolina in 2011. While in law school, Kevin was a founding member and president of the Phi Alpha Delta professional law fraternity chapter at Elon, worked at Legal Aid of North Carolina, and clerked at two separate law firms where he assisted primarily in criminal defense matters, including logging several hundred hours on two first-degree murder defense cases. Kevin began practicing at one of the firms at which he had clerked immediately following law school graduation and then subsequently moved back to Knoxville to join the Adams Law Firm. Kevin is licensed to practice law in the states of North Carolina and Tennessee, and he is a member of the Knoxville Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, and the Tennessee Association for Justice.Outside work, Kevin serves on Elon University’s Young Alumni Counsel, catches every University of Tennessee football and basketball game he can, and plays golf poorly.
